Prevalence of intestinal parasites in two different production systems in adult equines in the province of San Luis, Argentina

In equine production, treatments with anthelmintic drugs is still the means way to control of parasites without any prior diagnostic evidence to justify treatment. Thus it allow to generate resistance by parasites to the drug used and environmental ecotoxicity. The objectives of this work were to compare the epidemiology of nematodes by quantitative analysis in adult horses, in two productive systems, one stocked and the other one on grass. Then we perform stool cultures of these samples and determine the ratio oflarvaeofsmall and largestrongilides. The results obtained allow us to conclude that, through the quantitative analysis of HPG we can decrease the anthelmintic treatments and thus delay the appearance of resistance and decrease the environmental ecotoxicity. Only by performing the stool culture can we identify larvae o flargestrongils that justify an anthelmintic treatment and that there is a lower prevalence of small and largestronils in the stocked system.
