Socioproductive and Sanitary Survey of Family-Based Swine Production in Northwest Córdoba
Abstract
This work is framed within a project of the INTA 2019-2022 programmatic portfolio. Under the project PEI003 "Sustainable Production and Swine Health," a socioproductive and sanitary survey was conducted in December 2019, covering 17 family-based swine farms in the departments of Cruz del Eje, San Alberto, and Pocho, located in northwestern (NW) Córdoba. Key findings include: 93.75% of the establishments are located in rural areas; 75% of the cases maintain up to 10 breeding sows; and 93.75% produce for both self-consumption and surplus sales. While these data provide an initial approximation of the family swine production landscape in NW Córdoba, the results underscore the importance of addressing productive and sanitary challenges through an integrated approach. Such efforts are essential to develop actions that guarantee the consumption and commercialization of safe and wholesome food, thereby improving the quality of life for these families.
