Training Workshop on Vector Prevention and Control: "Toward a more efficient and safe agrifood production"
Abstract
Introduction to the Training WorkshopThe Argentine Food Code (Código Alimentario Argentino) is a set of hygienic-sanitary, bromatological, and commercial identification regulations enacted by Law 18,284. Its primary objective is the protection of public health and ensuring good faith in commercial transactions.
The theme that brings us together today is the Training Workshop on Vector Prevention and Control: "Toward a more efficient and safe agrifood production." Therefore, by cross-referencing the Code’s provisions with our main topic, we must first ask ourselves: What do we understand by the term "pest"? How is it defined by the World Health Organization (WHO)? What is the primary goal of control and management? How can we mitigate the risk factors that enable the proliferation of rodents and insects? Could we assert that traditional pest control is a reactive system—one that impacts abruptly and increases human health risks through poor management and toxicity? What sets Integrated Pest Management (IPM) apart? Is it a proactive system? Furthermore, what is the impact of pests on production processes, and how can we detect their root causes or predisposing conditions? Throughout this workshop, we expect to answer these questions with the guidance of the professionals who will be presenting next.
